To show our appreciation to our members, the Indian River Kontrol Society instituted an awards program to insure that those members that contribute to the club are properly recognized or rewarded. We have two different programs that are presented at our annual awards banquet in January. They are the ‘IRKY DIRK Award’ and our Participation Awards.
IRKY DIRK Award
The club’s top honor the “IRKY DIRK Award” is given by the Executive Board to the member that portrays those qualities which best represents the club. Current executive board members are not eligible.
The “IRKY DIRK Award” recipient receives $80 for the coming year's dues and a plaque with the following wording which best describes the award:
“This award is presented to _____________ who has voluntarily and unselfishly contributed countless hours of hard work for the betterment of the Indian River Kontrol Society and who generously supports all IRKS endeavors and has demonstrated exemplary club spirit, helpfulness, and comradeship with fellow IRKS members.”
The participation program was created to encourage club participation and to reward those members that voluntarily participate in advertised/scheduled club activities.
Points are awarded for such things as attending meetings, volunteering to work and/or participating in club contest, helping on scheduled workdays, volunteering with mowing duties, etc..
Approximately $600 in prizes is given at the end of the year to the top 20 members. The top participant usually walks away with a prize worth about $150. So you can see it pays to participate. The only caveat is that the top participate cannot win the top prize two years in a row.
The points system is as follows:
Meeting Attendance =3 points
Show and Tell = 3 points
Model of the Month = 3 points
Event participation as contestant = 2 points per day
Event participation as a helper = 2 points per day
Event participation as contestant and helper = 3 points per day
AMA Sanctioned event participation as contestant = 3 points per segment doubled
AMA Sanctioned event participation as a helper = 3 points per segment doubled
AMA Sanctioned event participation as contestant and helper = 5 points per segment doubled
Refreshments = 10 points
Work Day participation = 25 points
Grass mowing = 3 points per cut
(Starting 2009) Grass Mowing points – Since we only mow the grass twice a week during the growing season and maybe once a week during the fall and winter, volunteering to mow must be coordinated with the Executive Board or Field Director. This will allow us to insure you are properly credited with the work and assure that all grass mowing is done on schedule.
In addition to these awards each month at our general membership meeting we award monetary prizes for "Model of the Month" and "Show and Tell".
Model of the Month
The Model of the Month is awarded monthly (except January) to the best built model presented at the monthly general meeting. The award is by vote of the members present at the monthly general meeting. The winner receives $10.00 from the club.
ARF’s are not eligible since they are actually built by someone else and only assembled by the owner.
Show and Tell
A “Show and Tell” award is awarded monthly (except January) to the best “Show and Tell” presented at the monthly general meeting. This will be thing such as ARF’s, new products, construction techniques, etc.. The award is by vote of the members present at the monthly general meeting. The winner receives $5.00 from the club.
